3. Roughing Operation

In this lesson, we move on to the first stage of machining: rough milling of the workpiece surface and creating the main contour of the part. You will also learn how to import the tool table into the project.

You will master:

  • importing a tool from a .tom file and working with four main cutters;
  • creating a Face Milling operation to remove a 2 mm allowance from the top surface;
  • simulating the machining process with an evaluation of the spiral movement strategy;
  • creating a Waterline Roughing roughing operation with a machining area restriction to exclude the central hole;
  • setting the upper and lower milling levels, depth steps, and tool strategy;
  • visually controlling the toolpath in the simulation, including error checking.

This lesson provides practical skills for creating basic roughing operations with precise parameter settings and safe workpiece machining.

In the next video, we will work on the central hole and radial features (castellations). Don’t miss it!
